In my opinion, If you would like to be a virtual world geek guru, you should learn about meshes, OGREs, and Python scripting. Is your school ready to change? No. You say they are stubborn and stuck in their ways? That budgetary concerns and political bureacracy control what happens in the classrrom? Do you believe the only way to cause change in your school is if a better principal or dean is hired for the job?
